During LARP events, you are often outside in the evenings. I wanted a warm coat that matched the outfit I had made for my character, which is a very colorful gnome, so the coat had to become colorful and a bit funky as well.
I came up with the design myself and also drafted the pattern myself. Which consisted of: pieces. Many, many, many individual pieces! Fortunately, I am a very organised person who dutifully labels her pattern pieces – otherwise this would have become more like a puzzle than a sewing project!
I hand-made the yellow cord that was used for the button closure with a lucet, so it matches the (store bought) yellow trim I stitched to the bottom hem and the hood of the coat.
After sewing lots and lots of seams, this was the result:
Because sewing all those seams apparently wasn’t enough work, I also stitched them all open. 🙈 Not only because the fleece is very thick and I wanted them to lay flat, but also as part of the design: I used red thread to stitch on the green parts, and green thread to stitch on the orange parts, to create a nice contrast. However, the thread turned out to disappear into the fluffy fleece, so you can hardly see the result of all my work. *sigh*
Time spent: about 33 hours (not including drafting the pattern and making the cord)
Costs: €25,40 (€18,75 for 3 metres of fabric in total, plus the yellow trim and buttons)
