I needed a bag to go with my 17th century outfit. So I made one.
To be honest, I did not spend a lot of time researching the shape and construction of the purse. I did not require it to be 100% historically correct, I mainly had the urge to finish something in one single day, using materials I had lying around. I found several images online and went with that shape.
First I drew a mold (big enough to hold my phone) and I used my seamstress knowledge to turn out the front part until it had the desired width. Then I cut the pattern pieces from leather (these were scraps from the leather my bagpipe bag was made of!).
No, using a sewing machine is not the historically correct way to do it, but it is the quickest. 😉
